@James Well, good thing you don't get to decide which submissions are accepted or rejected. Great puzzle ... fun them. I just miss my rebuses. This is probably a Wednesday puzzle. Will look for more from you, Michael!
Loved this puzzle ... but kept thinking about divining rods for divination aids ... until the crosses gave me TEALEAVES. Then I realized what that mean: Ts must leave to get the clue's answers. Anyway, this was a fun an relatively easy (not so tricky) Thursday. Thank you, Brandon. Shall look at the wordplay article to perhaps learn more about you!
@suejean I thought the answer was MINT jelly. Anyone else? emu food more emu food
OMG ... the wonderful "loopdeloop" you see when, for example you trace out RAMALAMADINGDONG! I don't know how on earth the constructor was able to do this. I now need to read Wordplay and find out more. Thank you Simeon Seigel and editorial staff! THIS WAS AMAZING!
@sugardaddy Sorry, it's plebeian, not plebian. Good thing that wasn't one of today's crossword answers. emu food more emu food
Hard for me today... I was shocked to hear the happy music! Thank you for your fun long entries, Robyn! You are well loved here in Crosslandia ... and you keep making me happy.
Fun puzzle and not THAT tough for a Wednesday. Loved the lightning bolt at the end. THANK YOU, Jeffrey Lease! emu foood
Fun Monday. Agree? emu food more emu food
Great puzzle ... very smart! But, afterward when I glanced over the grid, I asked myself: "who on earth is Pia Noleg?" Really... I was Dooked big time. Onto reading...
Loved this puzzle and found it more "doable" than yesterday's. I did have trouble getting into the NW and SE corners though... had to take more than one break. Loved the two "What it's not, in a saying" words! Both were kind of obvious. Anyway, good day. Thanks, Carolyn and Jeff!
Want to say hi to everyone! Especially miss my favorites! But, you know who you are. Daily I do Wordle, Connections, Strands and Spelling Bee, so am rarely here for the ACTUAL puzzle. Sometimes I look in on Thursdays, but that's it. Love, Bonnie
@CCNY Sorry to hear that you woke up sad. I have a few issues that are causing the same rotten thing for me. Glad you got what you needed to help your ennui, etc. Thanks for the post. It helped put my woes in perspective.
Great puzzle! Probably as with most people, David Bowie's refrain (which I love) gave the theme away. BTW, loved the cute pic of the skunk babies. And, TIL that a "surfeit" is a group of skunks. Wow, what a name! Thank you for this morning's fun, Daniel.
Another Friday that is way too hard for me. I'll just keep on trying though. Might be a good idea to try a few more Iverson puzzles since she is just SOOOOOO good! emu food more emu food
Great puzzle... Loved the revealer (RE FUSING) which I figured out after getting the first themer (FIRESISTANT). Reading the Constructor's Notes, I am impressed by his sheer talent... and varied interests. Hope to see more of you, Jared.
@sotto voce Great post, sotto! Thanks for saying so superbly what I was thinking. emu food more emu food
Straightforward ... but the theme eluded me. Once I read Wordplay, I got it (of course). VERY clever ... with the 3 "hole" themers followed by the one "punch" themer. Thank you, Christina!
Yeeks! Never would have completed this puzzle if it were not for Deb. Congrats to all who got it. Now, seeing WORMHOLE, it becomes obvious! Pooh! emu food
Very smart theme! Loved it! Thank you, Chloe and Alissa! See ya soon! emu food more emu food
Fantastic puzzle with really neat fills... my favorite was 26A "Bad match on tinder" (ARSON). Others just too fun to mention. But TIL that llamas and alpacas (my favorite - so damned cute) were used to guard sheep! Who knew. Thought emus did that! J/K Also TIL about a poem by Poe I did not know ... but shall dive into that rabbit hole in a few. Hey ... bet someone here knows the name of the Polish city by the sea... Got that via crosses.... without help from friend Andrzej. Anyway I thought this puzzle was delightful with such easy fill. Thank you, constructor.
Thank you, Victor. I did get mini “Aha!” momenst from the theme entries! Loved LOVEDONE! Great Tuesday fare. See you again soon?
@Mean Old Lady I loved your post ... all of it ... the SPICE RACK bit, the CHIMES (OMG!) and especially the story about your darling Rupert. What a wonderful woman! emu food more emu food
Mat Shelden, congratulations on your debut. It was a wonderful puzzle... and though I needed a little help, it was a fun solve. See you again soon ... maybe on a Mon - Weds? emu food more emu food
I thought that I had posted that this was a fun Monday puzzle, but I guess not... Fun Monday puzzle! DUCKDUCKGOOSE was the first themer to fall although I never heard of this game... got it via crosses. Shall have to look it up. Anyway, thank you dear constructor for your debut puzzle!
Pretty fantastic puzzle, don't you think? Right off, I was searching for something to do with Queen and Freddie Mercury and finally found BOHEMIANRHAPSODY! From there I went on to find GLASSTHERMOMETER. I didn't see a revealer, but may have missed it. Anyway, thank you for your effort, dear Sam! See you at the Bee!
@Bonnie BTW, TOCK sounds nothing like TALK to me. emu food more emu food
Tough Sunday, I thought. You? EmYOU?
I thought this was a great puzzle and a bit harder than most Sundays. Well, you just had to "hit on" the theme and then all was well. And what a cutie you are. Hope that you and hubby continue to enjoy your retirement. What fun! Thank you so much, Tracy Gray.
Interesting puzzle for a Monday... Learned something about the phrase! Thanks, Amanda! An incredible debut! emu food
Interesting theme. Don't think I have ever seen this before (i.e., all words have the same number of letters) ... but then again, I have not been solving for that long. Cool! I clearly do not agree with Xword Junkie. ;-)
Love this puzzle. So very clever! Thank you, John Kugelman! Hopefully, see you again soon! Emu food
Fun and breezy puzzle. Looking forward to more from Nate... Thank you constructor and editors!
Great fun! TG for an easy solve. I needed it this morning! Loved the colorful ending! Thanks, Desiree and Jeff! Hope to see another collaboration from the 2 of you... a Wednesday next time, OK? I shall look for you! ;-)
@Andrzej I, an American, had the same problem as you with the pathologically lovely acronym CODA and what on earth is Slack (had to look that up)? Took a while to get ADWEEK... hey, I had to look that up too! Ditto your "War and Peace" comment. Wonder how many of you Americans out there have read it? Anyway, as usual, your not being American didn't make much of a difference as I see it. Anyway,
@David A I am so insulted. Puzzles are NOT for folks with time to fill. I mean ... is that what you think of me? I am a bored woman with nothing else to do? Anyway, good luck to you and a wife, if you have one. Sheesh. Emus, get him!
Decent puzzle. Easier for me than most (ALL) Saturdays. Well, I did have to look up a couple of answers I had no way of knowing (and the crosses were not helping). However, I can't claim to have solved it yet because even though the grid looks perfect, I haven't managed to hear the happy music yet. I'll keep lookin'. :-)
Thank you for the fun Monday puzzle, Joe Marquez! Here's to you! emu food more emu food
@Vaer Yup, I love Sheldon! His word for his grandma was the only way I would have guessed MEEMAW. Actually, I never thought this term was a real word. Apparently, it is! Right, emus?
@Skeptical1 You are incorrect. Either is acceptable ... Just Google: What is the plural of chateau? Here's the word you're looking for... Answer The plural form of chateau is chateaux or chateaus.
@Jeff Z You silly boy. You are NOT a failure! That really made me giggle!!! emu food more emu food
Fun puzzle, Adam Vincent! GOSLING is what clued me in! emu food more emu food
I preferred his "first submission of this puzzle had the lone “I” in an unchecked square surrounded with black squares (giving a visual representation of an eye." Egad That would have been wonderful!
@Marlene Muraco Well, "host" also means a multitude or great number ... as in "a whole host of options." To me, therefore, host was a synonym for army ... lots, a ton, etc. emu food more emu food
Great theme! TY, David Rockow! Especially loved the Constructor Notes. See you again, hopefully!
@CCNY Broken ankle? For real? I feel so sorry for you! But I had back (spinal fusion) surgery, so you should feel sorry for me. DO NOT have surgery for spinal stenosis or something like that... I was so much better before hand. Later, gator!
Breezy puzzle. Thank you for my late night fun solve, Desirée Penner and Jeff Sinnock! Congrats on your wedding. All was perfect in the end! Enjoy your wonderful marriage emu food
@Red Carpet If you click on the Connections lightbulb, you will be taken to the forum! I never appreciate peple putting info (even "results") for other puzzles here. I will usually flag that entry as off-topic! So, behave, now! ;-)
@HeathieJ How on earth could Monopoly nearly destry lifelong friendships? Do you care to tell us? Anyway, if you tossed the checkers board, I'm surprised hubby continued to talk to you. hehe emu food more emu food
TG for the several straightforward longish words like THISISPOINTLESS and TOOKITONTHECHIN. These made solving the puzzle possible. I agree with most, I guess, that this Saturday was easier than most. Loved it! Thank you, Hoang-Kim Vu!
Very difficult for me. I needed to come to Wordplay (and Deb's column) for help! Some great clues like: “One way to make cookie dough?” for BAKESALE! Thanks Deb for telling us that you visited the Dr. Martens web site. I didn't know the shoe, so went there to look. I absolutely loved the shoe: Dr. Martens 1460 Boot - Women's, patent leather in pale pink. Sheesh! But where would I wear them? Anyway, thanks for the wonderful column (as usual). Thank you, dear constructor for messing up my mind. Shall Saturday's puzzles ever be doable for me?
