@RobcoThere are Oxfam charity shops (thrift stores?) on every high street in the UK so that was a gimme once the 'x' was revealed. They have specific outlets just to sell books that tend to be really good. I take it these are less common in the US?

I'm somewhat disappointed the setter didn't include 'Monomania' as a clue. A bit of humour like that would've made me more willing to accept such a self-indulgent theme.

Yeah if we're going to have 2 AI clues in one puzzle it would've been nice to have the AITOOL be clued as something like 'the creator of 32D, say'
