@Heidi I'm delighted to see I'm not the only one who gritted their teeth seeing this annoying baby-talk word make it to the crossword!
@Mike Just to clarify further, in versions where he was Callisto's son she wasn't a bear yet when she raised him.
@Deb K There were also 100 Japanese sen in a yen before inflation reduced the yen's value. I guess both answers work, I didn't even think of the "senator" answer!
@Nora As a fan of cryptic crosswords, I agree with you that the interface really makes you fight it. I also think it doesn't really work to have a daily puzzle that aims to introduce people to cryptics, because a lot depends on the daily difficulty you happen to get. I went through the tutorial fine but then the daily puzzle was rated "hard' and I found it impenetrable. If there were just a pool of easier "real" puzzles you could play through I think that would bring in a lot more people.
@Mike Arcturus: Arcas/Arcturus was a hunter who tried to kill Callisto when she was a bear, also sometimes identified as her son. But stories vary! @Joe You are correct. As a fifth century BCE philosopher, Zeno would of course only have had access to still cameras, so this movie camera analogy would have made no sense to him. (/s in case necessary in these humorless times, but in any case take it from a professional classicist, you are correct)
@Scott Sure - hence the biblical "sow the wind, reap the whirlwind."
@Barry Ancona It seems to me that we rather have NOTHING standing in for the letter T. Since "rebus" comes from the Latin "res" meaning "thing," I would have to agree that this is not a rebus!
