@Puzzled the first time I solved a Saturday puzzle without any lookups, I was super proud of myself. Then I went to the comments and saw that everyone else thought it was the easier Saturday ever. I survived! But when I solved a Saturday without lookups and the comments indicated it was a hard puzzle? Then I really felt like I had “made it.” Puzzle difficulty is a real thing. It doesn’t do anyone any favors to pretend like it’s not.
I have to brag: I finished this puzzle in 15 minutes with no lookups. I’ve been doing the NYT crossword regularly for over two years at the point and I finally feel like I’m getting pretty good at them! Fridays and Saturdays are still hit or miss, though.
@Grant my school wasn’t cool enough to have a marching band, but I was part of the PEPBAND that played at home games. Our team had to do without at away games… possibly explains why they were so bad?
I finished a few minutes under my average time with no lookups and expected to come here and see everyone talking about how easy it was… I think this officially means I’m decent at this crossword thing. On the other hand, I’m a pretty lousy American because I had to look at a map to be reminded that IDAHO does, in fact, stretch all the way up to Canada.
Just set a new Monday best! Out of curiosity, long time/super speedy solvers: what’s your Monday record?
@Tommy you haven’t read to a child in the last decade or two— this is the established sound for a goat.
