A birthday treat, my fastest Monday ever!
Great puzzle, great theme, great fill, great fun.
Nice puzzle. I got the revealer clue straight away so the repeat of LEMON helped me hack my way through some big gaps in my emptier theme answers. Because of this, it felt to me more like a Monday or Tuesday style of puzzle theme, but not for overall difficulty. I also got caught out by the ETALII/NEIL crossing (doubting my first guess that NEIL is definitely an I and not an A) and having had never heard of LAICS. But the rest of the fill was very satisfying. Whether it's just me getting familiar with more common answers or it's recent editorial choices... does it feel like more of the latest crosswords have generally had smoother fill?
@IZ I was tripped up with ROTINI too. Rotini is usually labelled as fusilli in British supermarkets.
Great work, constructor.
IBEENHAD? Huge thumbs down.
@Ham Came here to comment similar. THEFLOORISLAVA is a very well known kid’s game in the West way before the Internet had a hand in its recent amplification. It’s a meme in the traditional definition of a well liked and spread idea but not really an Internet meme. I’d hope that columnists get to read constructor notes before they try to speak for a theme’s origins.
