I agree with Caitlin that KAC's brilliant puzzles seem to just keep getting better. In addition to answers that seem to slyly refer to other answers ("Barbets" being both potential residents of aviaries and dogs with halitosis), there is also a submerged "rock guitarist" theme. Solvers noted Paulina Porizkova's relation with Ric Ocasik of The Cars, and KAC himself cited the Allman's as the source of "Hot 'Lanta", but did he also know that "Dog Breath" is another rock song with an absolute shredder of a guitar solo? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMpKXBxEC5s&list=RDWMpKXBxEC5s&start_radio=1 What a great Saturday puzzle! Thanks KAC!
@M and P - Yes, that one rang the same bell for me. The novels of Penelope Fitzgerald ("The Gate of Angels", "The Blue Flower", et al) are exquisite.
@ad absurdum Thank goodness! I thought - for a brief moment - only the creator and I were aware of the slang meaning of GSS. It definitely fails the Breakfast Test, but stacking it on top of "What an Outrage" did provide a good chuckle. Nice debut!
