@Mike In Aberdeen Scotland, the local drapery tradesman has "A blind man drives this van" in bold writing across the back of his vehicle.
Crossword addict from New Zealand here! After 15 years of fun with the NYT I'm on a record streak of 21. I would love to hear from other crazies who try solving unaided - no dictionary, no wiki ... no nothing. It just took me 1 hr 33 min to get Margaret Seikel's one today. Hair-raising but a real sense of achievement when that final clue fell!
One of those lovely puzzles you just work on steadily and it all comes together in one session ... just under 26 mins. Perfect for a Friday, and a great way to start the weekend!
A round of applause once again for the fabulous NY Times Sunday crossword setters. Ever week they give us something innovative, something challenging and something to smile about. From a grateful Kiwi!
Yikes ... this one took me 1 hr 14 minutes! Being a Kiwi, I always puff out my chest when I solve Friday or Saturday, as the American references leave me with plenty of work to do. It took me a long time to get 'pasta' and "APlus" - I kept thinking the high 90s had to be something hot! On to Saturday!
Like most, I struggle-bussed with the SW corner, and had to sleep on it. Last clue to fall after 1 hr 11m was the marvellous "DO TO A T". Wonderful to get the gold star today!
What a fabulous crossword! Thanks Ricky!
What a lovely lovely puzzle. Thanks Lance!
@Puzzlemucker Came to read the crossword comments, and found this beautiful poem. Thank you!
Just a brilliant puzzle. Well done, Kareem!
@Regine Thanks Regine! Yeah, the 1 hr 33 minutes this time was made up of some short bursts, and many hours away. After several tries, I was only half way done, and then it all came together a couple of hours ago ... 1 am NZ time! I think you're right ... your brain works away in the background and then you come back and it all falls into place. Wonderful feeling!!
@Annie Wow ... congratulations Annie - fabulous. I've got a live streak of 20 going at the moment, so a long LONG way to go to catch you. I solve on my own, with no dictionaries, wiki, or other help. Hope your next 1,000 is just as much fun 🌞
@Jack McCullough Thanks Jack! As a New Zealander, I struggle with some of the US-specific clues on people, places and sports. But yeah ... those happy notes and the "Congratulations" are always a thrill, especially with a toughie like today!
@Paul Well done mate. I struggled a bit with this one and took 33:27, just above average. My PB for a Friday is 5:53, which was on 23 Dec 2022. Good to see another NYT crossword lover from Down Under!
@Francis Thanks Francis! The streak is now 22 ... Sunday is usually a huge relief after Saturday!
@IZ Merry Christmas to all! Not quite a PB for me, which was 27:20 on New Year's Day 2023. But very happy with 32:31. A lovely flowing solve!
@Melvin Hoagland Hi Melvin ... I got it in 24:35, which is also a personal best for Sunday, so we're both happy! Congratulations on your terrific streak. My best streak is 25, although I do set myself the extra challenge of doing each puzzle without any help. Happy New Year!
