A pretty fun puzzle, especially when it was actually a few guesses on the long clues that really got things going. I struggled a lot with FANS/FIT, considering PANS is a less jargon-y fit.
Not a big fan of this Saturday's puzzle. A lot of clever wordplay (the dodgers one in particular) and I enjoyed the two cup clues, and the crossed coat ones, but: - 3D (Cinderella) was definitely missing a ? and needed something to clue towards the unconventional meaning. - surely 17A (git) is way too esoteric? First time I've ever seen the word, and crossing with 5A (wine sediment) is mean. - 43A (home theaters)? I didn't realize this crossword was from 2010. - I think 7A (white Russians) has been covered plenty in the comments already.
Interesting to have both a Britishism (chestnuts) and an American-centric clue (AETNA). EASIERSAIDTHANDONE to remember that COATIs aren't cats.
I appreciated being able to fill in most starred clues without the revealer but, once I got it, it helping with the last two. Sad there wasn't a single Dumas references in the grid :( @wordplay: ATLAS also works as the titan from Greek mythology holding the whole sky/world on his shoulders. Clever clue to work both ways.
It was neat that hunchback fits for QUASIMODO. Don't enjoy the WILLYLOMAN x LUSAKA cross. Is Death of a Salesman common high school reading somewhere or what am I missing for this to be a Tuesday clue?
I know it's a common crossword clue, but in an era of uploading resumes online, you have to assume they will get passed around to all sorts of sites. Is it common to put phone numbers on resumes? I haven't in 10+ years.
Pretty fun puzzle but relatively easy once you figure out the gimmick. My only regret is that no toppings made it into the puzzle itself.
@SP I had a few as well, but I could guess STAYMAN from stamen and SINEBAR makes enough sense. Didn't love PUENTE crossed with ENSOR though, and putting serene instead of SEDATE messed up the TABOURET part, though CLAM helped clear that up.
