Hated it. Far too much obscure fill. Theme that was difficult to follow in the app. This one never should it made it past the editors.
Far too much esoterica and bad clueing. Not tricky clueing, bad clueing.
Um, no. After being told for years to omit hyphens in crossword answers, now we're supposed to start including them?
@Sean The one was also my last letter. I thought the same thing about REAVIES. I only got it after reading Caitlin's column. This clue needed more elaboration. Perhaps "The Governator, in his own accent," or "The Governator."
This theme has me guessing for a while. When I finally got it, I let out a groan. That's a good groan, as in "why didn't I see that sooner. Great clueing throughout and hardly any pop culture trivia. I think ALOU and ISIAH are pretty standard crossword fill. This was a great puzzle all around.
@maddie mini magic I expect Thursday level fill and clues. This wasn't even close to that.
Liked this puzzle a lot. There are actually 4 ways to find "inside" in the circled letters -- the left half, the right half (which Caitlin mentioned), the top half, and the bottom half (which Anita mentioned below). 2 are forwards and two are backwards. Now I'm wondering if connecting the circled letters makes a pictures. It looks a bit like the crumpled shirt on the floor that I put on inside out and backwards this morning.
@Steve L Not a one is a rap artist. That makes them okay by me.
A puzzle better suited for Google than for me.
I liked the theme. The fill required to support the theme was far too esoteric.
That was some seriously clever clueing. A lot of groaners. This was tough in a fun way. A well constructed puzzle.
Great puzzle. Enjoyed every crunchy minute.
@Chris g I agree. One of my favorite clues ever. For those complaining about similarity to a clue from Saturday: 1. Today's constructor did not construct Saturday's puzzle. 2. I can barely remember what I had for lunch today. I certainly don't remember specifics of Saturday's clues.
I found this really entertaining. It did take me 90 minutes to complete, but I enjoyed every minute. The theme had me confused for a long time until I realized I had to work the whole grid. That's what I liked best about this theme -- it covered the entire puzzle.
Deb, we will miss you. I hope you will enjoy your retirement as much as we have enjoyed reading your work. The best way to remove an earworm is to replace it with a better piece of music. May I suggest "Rolling in the Deep?" It's also appropriate to this puzzle. Deb said it best when she said this puzzle was a delight. I can't think of a better compliment for this work of joy.
This one was boccied. That strange use of a variant without telling us it was a variant, ruined an otherwise enjoyable puzzle.
What a great puzzle. I loved the clever clues that made me groan.
"Conversely, if you love this puzzle and haven’t discovered the joys of cryptics yet, consider it a sign and seek some out." Does this mean the Times is finally going to make their cryptics available in the app? Or is this just another tease about what we pay for but don't have.
Very clever theme. Loved figuring out the theme answers and the trivia the clues provided. A bit easy for a Wednesday, but the theme made it fun.
The fill was far too obscure. Google enjoyed this puzzle much more than I did. And the puns weren't even enjoyable.
Groan (in a very good way, as I did after solving most of the clues today).
Oh, how I hate anagrams. But I really enjoyed this puzzle.
Great theme and excellent execution. Really enjoyed it.
Are there any inflight magazines still in publication? I think all of the airlines have stopped producing them. Maybe that's part of the April Fool's joke.
Really enjoyable with lots of fun cluing.
This was a tough one. Had to look up the Sarawat Mountains and the slang meaning of bog. Once I had those two, I was able to work through the rest. Thank goodness this one used the correct spelling of bocce.
@Terry Have you ever played the board game Clue? Remember the secret passage between the lounge and the conservatory? A worm hole is much like that. It lets you move from one place to another in a single move. I don't think secret passage would have worked as a theme.
@Striker Is that a proposed clue for this puzzle -- M, T and W but not ABC?
@Dave K. As in bussing a table at a restaurant
Square 61 could hold a U as equally well as an O, giving the puzzle two solutions.
@Jim So the rules apply... until they don't.
@Lucas Walker Red wine is stored in a cask before it is bottled.
@Patrick 12D and 21A don't cross. Is that what makes it so great?
