'The Octopus' Tell me, O Octopus, I begs, Is those things arms, or is they legs? I marvel at thee, Octopus If I were thou, I'd call me Us. Ogden Nash
With the wooing, canoodling, loving, kissing, amour and romcom, I'd say the romance thing is covered.
First thought was that the zinc compound must be in a sunscreen. I do not advise using STP for this purpose.
@Steve L it would have to be released as a 45. (thats a little vinyl record for all the youngsters here)
I was surprised by the clue for NENE since it seems to be quite common in crossword puzzles
Crossing KIDFLASH and LYNN might be a Natick, but that's west of Boston
Tripped up at first because wrote 18D as IGNOBEL as in the recently awarded prizes
@Francis Heard of it for some reason but had a struggle with putting all the L's in the right place ..
I would also add that its more likely that a discoverer is not a lucky scientist so much as a hard working one. Case in point is Hans Krebs and others whose years of painstaking measurement and experimentation led to the description of the eponymous cycle.
So wanted DECK and ROYAL FLUSH for 67A and 62A, respectively. Just not in the cards today.
Wonder if Bill Gates played the crossword today...
Tripped up by trying to cross LIPS with LANDCAR
Hmm..another contender for "King of Mambo"!
Agreed, and also not enough texting abbreviations,IMHO. LOL!
Had to look up Lady Marmalade to realize it is the title of a well known song with a, shall we say, rather naughty refrain. Pardon my French!
I had to suspend good taste to enter a word that rhymes with "loop" for 2D. Thankfully it was wrong
Is that the Newton near Natick? Plenty of that town in this puzzle..
Get it but cheers from us Worcesterites (Worcesterians?) ! And UMass Worcester was in the news recently for the Nobel awarded to Victor Ambros
Rang a bell because of one of the more surreal Looney Tunes shorts "Duck Amuck" (starring Daffy, of course)
John McPhee has been a favorite of mine ever since buying "The Deltoid Pumpkin Seed" 50+ years ago in a Cape Cod bookstore. I've read nearly all of his work since.
@Jeanne You reminded me of watching, er, reruns, of the uncreatively named "Patty Duke Show" in which she played identical twin cousins. Never figured out the genetics of that...
Maybe a sports fan (a few good entires today). BU, short walk to Fenway. Northwestern, a few el stops to Wrigley. Michigan, pretty good football team I hear.
Waiting for FOBO (fear of a better option) to appear. Sometimes I get that when I fill in a crossword answer doubtfully with no crosses to confirm.
@Evan First put in KATLA, one of the largest (and overdue) volcanoes.
Spoiler alert for Strands players: 13D
...or maybe taping a flyer to a telephone pole?
@Momerlyn don't feel bad. Absolutely terrible puzzle. Done with strands.
