Every birthday eve I take myself out to a nice dinner and do the NYT Crossword. Image my joy this evening! Thank you MaryEllen!
I absolutely loved this puzzle today. It got me excited about crosswording in a way I had been needing right now. I had a lot of satisfaction getting the trick but also found the fill breezy without being boring. For those who didn't catch the need for adding the dashes in the spaces, I figured I needed to add a hyphen in the spaces given the title of the puzzle! "Multi-Hyphenates." I do wish there was a more straightforward way to add special characters though. Thank you for the fun today, Mr Zheng!
I love it when a Friday puzzle makes me feel smart. Do you know what I mean? It's not easy, with lots of clues I didn't get on the first or maybe even second pass. But I just feel so good about myself once things start clicking, and the aha moments are so satisfying without feeling IMPOSSIBLE. Exactly what I want out of a Friday puzzle!
CANNIBALS made me lol. If I'd gotten that joke over text I would have responded with a SKULL. Loved this puzzle and was pleased to finish a Friday with no hints or lookups, while still feeling challenged. This puzzle reminded me why I enjoy NYT crosswords as a PASTIME. Feeding emus.
A beautiful crossword, worthy of the author it honors. I particularly liked two clues about shooting stars, and the passionate crossing of AROUSE and TENDER with DESIRE. I'll solve another of Mx Panico's puzzles any day.
@Cindy I only know it because in an episode of I Love Lucy, Lucy makes a sign that says "Nerts to Mertz!" when she's running against Ethel in a vote :D Truly the only evidence I've ever seen of its existence as a word, but there it is!
@David I was about to post almost the exact same comment. Glad to see equal enthusiasm for this one!
I loved this Saturday and completed it well below my average time. Yesterday I struggled to complete the Friday puzzle and it just wasn't clicking. In the comments yesterday and today, it seems that most people experienced the opposite. It's a good reminder that mileage may vary with each crossword, and that's a beautiful thing
Duncan THANK YOU it absolutely made my day to have my Vanderpump Rules obsession collide with my NYT Crossword obsession. I'm sure it went unnoticed by many, but was was deeply appreciated by me.
@The X-Phile I learned something new today! Maybe most people know this, but I always thought it was opinion as well.
@Zack Same here, this was the last section to fall for me. Hi from a fellow Chicagoan!
@mad_adam GDS was my least favorite in the puzzle, but overall I still loved it. Maybe because I liked Chicago El shout out
