It's BOCCE. The game is BOCCE. This ruined the entire puzzle. Can the editors really be this clueless?
It would have been nice if the puzzle accepted LINE instead of forcing the dashes, which was a cheap gimmick. I don't appreciate losing my streak because of some nonsense like this. I spent forever searching for my error only to finally reveal and learn that the constructor is the one who made the error. A crossword puzzle is supposed to be filled with letters.
NOOMI crossing AMOR broke my streak. Another NYT proper noun trivia fest.
They couldn't fit any more names in there?
@Margaret Because if you use the word "dash" as a verb instead of a noun, one can assume you just "dash" the line to read the down answers. It makes a lot more sense than adding non-letters to a puzzle that is supposed to be filled with letters.
@Nancy J. Some of us thought they were using "dash" as a verb. So you would "dash" the LINE and just read the down clue without those letters.
@Jane Wheelaghan Exactly this!! If you use dash as a verb, then it seems perfectly reasonable to have LINE written in. Not to mention, the across answers only make sense with the word LINE written in.
@Nancy J. SER is a spelling of SIR in Game of Thrones so at least there was precedent. The constructor is obviously a fan given the WESTEROS answer. It seemed more plausible than a fake/incorrect spelling of BOCCE.
@Janine You've never heard the word dash used as a verb?
@Nor So you are saying that ----DRIVE and ----DANCE are somehow less nonsensical? What is a ----WORKER?
This puzzle was horrible.
@CHW Do the across answers somehow work with a bunch of dashes before them? What exactly is a ----DRIVE? Or a ----BACKER? Are these any less absurd than TUNDO?
