The Nati
different letters for across and down where the words cross violates the basic premise of a crossword puzzle. just a creator too lazy to do it the right way.
I find it interesting that the clues that are listed as tricky in the column are usually ones I did not find particularly tricky. It is usually others that trip me up. Like, how does "Meet" relate to the clue "Heat setting, perhaps", or clues about obscure authors/actors/screenwriters, etc, or that require specific knowledge of games or shows that only those that played or watched them would have.
I finished about a half hour. But, yet another puzzle that violates the most basic premises of a crossword puzzle. 1 - answers are actually words 2 - where words cross, they need to be the SAME letter(s) Are trh
Nice puzzle, except 117 across. I see no scenario in which "percent" is a correct answer for a clue of "1/4". I could see "25 percent", "fraction", "quarter", etc. to get "percent" the clue should have been "1/100".
So, how are we supposed to complete the puzzle when there are multiple "correct" answers? And how are we supposed to know that this type of gimmick is even a thing? BTW I did not find any of the clues listed as "tricky" to be particularly challenging.
@Homey16 Are there any actual rules about what can go in a square? Are there any rules at all, other than the nonsensical symmetry requirement? And most of the answers are wrong anyway. 22 across should be lineworker. But, we have to use 4 lines or dashes instead of letters, which makes it read" lineSworker, dashes worker (too many spaces), linelinelineworker
@MaryEllen absolutely right about fly lures
Overall, a fairly easy solve, except for "BABYMOON". I have never heard this phrase/word. If the only reference for this is an obscure piece of literature, then I do not feel it is appropriate for a crossword.
@The X-Phile what??? How does the answer from 98 across have any relation to the answer for 117 across?
@Seward Parker No, if you take a quarter away from 1/4 you get 0. Not 1%
@Seward Parker No, 1/4% = 0.0025. It would make even less sense.
@Marshall Walthew Nope. take a quarter away from 1/4 you get 0. not a percent.
@Seward Parker No, if you take a quarter away from 1/4 you get 0. Not 1% And why would I, or anyone, assume that the answer for 98A is part of the clue for 117a (or any other answer for that matter)
@Fyob nope. Take a quarter away from 1/4 you get zero.no percents are remaining at all.
@Steve L the theme is coins. In that case, 1/4 in words is quarter or "one quarter", not 25%. A quarter in currency is 0.25 dollars, or 25 cents, but NOT 25%. Assuming quarter means quarter, then 1/4 minus quarter equals ZERO.
@Steve L the theme is coins. 1/4 in words is quarter or "one quarter", not 25% (it could be interpreted as 25% in some cases, but since the theme is coins, then the 25% does not fit). A quarter in currency is 0.25 dollars, or 25 cents, but NOT 25%. Assuming that 1/4 is 1/4 dollar (a quarter) then 1/4 minus (no) a quarter equals ZERO.
@Katherine Almy the explanations are justifications for incorrect logic. 1/4 less a quarter is ZERO, not "percent"
