Tricky Sunday for us, hung up on YENTA, which I've never seen nor heard of. My NYT crash course in Yiddish merrily continues
Painful combination of obscure Americana (sports teams, furniture brands, court cases) and obscure spellings (LITCHI..?) topped off with a dollop of pig Latin, made this a bit of a drag. It's fair game of course, given than this is the NYT, but still didn't have nearly as much fun as usual. At least the Ryder cup is going well!
@Andrzej fully agreed. KPH or KMH as a unit of velocity had us stuck, but KIL never would have come close to occurring
@Haim Wright this was actually my favourite clue!
A decent solve for the euro contingent, excepting BIALY and the Americana cross of death ROLEO/ALOU (who I will file next to mel OTT in the prehistoric baseball players crossword answer folder). Thanks for another enjoyable Sunday and have a great day everyone :)
@Andrzej fully agreed! As someone who's frequently sensitive to the US centric clues, these were all common knowledge except for the outfield wall.
Really well constructed, fair puzzle. No naticks, good clean cluing! A shining example of crossword construction that started our day off on the right foot.
@Ernest fully agreed, tough one for the non-US contingent and not in an enjoyable way. Better luck next week!
I have learned to brace myself for obscure American sports trivia (and thus won't complain about it overtly), but my brothers and sisters in christ, what is GORP? (Besides that, a fun but tricky solve!)
Overall an easy Thursday (waiting for the rebus that never came!), but stuck for ages at the end with CARMOD instead of PERIOD! Time to learn how to spell REAGAN I suppose
Can someone please explain why it's shortened to Les MIZ, and not MIS? Thanks!
Missed an excellent opportunity for 108-across to be LIDLVAN! Excellent puzzle as always, thanks.
You guys have convinced me. I need to get to an NYC deli to try one of these things ASAP!
Awesome to see our local football club mentioned! Makes up for having to memorize all of your prehistoric baseball players and NFL names :)
@Petrol I refuse to overlook AMSCRAY! 😄
