I will just assume any complainers are just pulling their own (not so funny) April Fool's Joke Because this is such a perfectly executed and clever idea for a Tuesday April Fool's puzzle. It's Tuesday, so it can't be too hard, but you have to include some twist on April Fool's, so really hard to strike that balance And this really does capture the frustration/annoyance of filling in a partially filled puzzle Well done!
TIL "Legally Blonde" is supposed to be a pun on Legally Blind
Fun puzzle - I think the rebus was gettable even without a revealer (and I think having a revealer for something like this would be either impossible or so on the nose that it would ruin things / not be a clever clue) I try to make it a habit when doing rebus puzzles to always enter them as slashes, putting the across part of the answer before the "/" and then the down part of the answer after. In this case, it really helped me appreciate what a beautiful construction this is - four long across answers which all had both IE and EI in them - and - all crossed with the opposite pairing! Well done!
As a FIRST GENERATION immigrant myself, I was surprised/shocked when I had F _ _ S _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ and that "FRESH OFF THE BOAT" actually fit Especially seeing the constructor and knowing how he typically approaches puzzles, I was thinking, "wow, would Erik Agard really do this? Or maybe we're taking back the term? And there was a TV show named this recently..." ...but I suspect that answer would not have been well received
Loved it! I got the BLINKERS reveal and figured it was going to be on/off based on some of the down clues, but the alternating L/R brought the puzzle to the next level!
Being a vegetarian science major from the Bay Area certainly helped me out in the NW!
Calling it cheesepie would be insanity
Wow, insane construction! Very impressive
My guess is EEG was AED? So RAG was RAD, NEPAL was NATAL, CARPE was CARTE
I found this was one of the Saturday puzzles that definitely seemed tough on first pass and led to me feeling "stuck" after finishing ~half the puzzle I took a few hours break, came back with fresh eyes and then it all fell into place. I feel like this happens to me pretty commonly on Saturdays - there's probably some fancy psychological term for it (which would appropriately show up in a Saturday puzzle, probably!)
Absence makes the heart grow fonder? But I already loved Robyn Weintraub Fridays
A Scrabble themed pangram? Impressive!
Fun Friday puzzle! In case anyone else also got tripped up / guessed wrong since it has the same number of letters in it, Los Angeles only has a ~47% Hispanic population
Beautiful puzzle! Came together very nicely on the solve
Woof. This one was tough Every time I got a start somewhere, I ran into an answer I had not really heard before, and couldn't confirm was right based on anything in the clue. Usually this happens once or twice on a Saturday but a bunch today: VERSOS, METIER, MERER, NOTV, PECOS/PEAT
@Marshall Walthew I think NYT Games has received enough feedback about rebuses that they pretty much accept any combo of across and/or down answers (basically, as long as you have the box right and the general idea of the rebus, they don't want to penalize people for NOT being persnickety) ...but I stand by being persnickety. I find it very satisfying also
Probably one of my favorite Sundays ever I put in THE SOUTHEAST just because that's what seemed to fit The realization/ aha moment that (yes, really!) it could be multiple areas was amazing
Loved it! The bonus theme was great
I'm happy to have the occasional Friday be on the easier side (It also usually means a tough Saturday/Sunday are around the corner...) Surprised to see some common crosswordese in this one that was very straightforwardly clued (AER, ISAO, LET) - sometimes on Friday / Saturdays, there's no gimmes!
Very breezy Saturday. I think being familiar with Caitlin Clark, WandaVision and being a frequent user of the mentioned dog meme helped get me off to a flying start This was faster than all of my Wed-Fri times this week!
On pretty much all of the longer clues, my initial hunch ended up being right - very rare for a Friday! Very unlikely I'll ever break this personal best, guess I should savor it!
I knew that walls could have eyes, and I suppose it makes sense that they could have ears Can they have noses? Do they taste? Do they feel? Obviously all this AI talk recently has me questioning what human existence is
Gas relief and Goffo seemed perfectly plausible to me!
(I did kind of have to just make an educated guess about BACONATOR, though)
My Wednesday time was the longest of my week - can't remember the last time that happened!
@TMD I'm going to steal this technique!
Love me a breezy Friday!
