Jonathan Richman has four songs named after artists, and all four are in this puzzle. Pablo Picasso (with the Modern Lovers) https://youtu.be/fT6VGHEUkbA?si=KIDJL9Eej45Y0RMc No one was like Vermeer https://youtu.be/D1iWz7sCbsY?si=Bk52qBBiHWo03phS Salvador Dali https://youtu.be/mPWgg7Gck4U?si=rwgnNRkSBbzG4CxJ Vincent Van Gogh https://youtu.be/Jo0oNRvdkPQ?si=cjICboZcEnWUgBkD I’ll be humming these all weekend

I felt this puzzle was B-B-B-B-Bad to the bone! Love the RONS, both Carter (maybe the most prolific recording artists of all time, from Miles to Chet and even A Tribe Called Quest, he appears on over 2000 recordings) and Perlman with a impressive number of film and tv credits in his own right, they may be my two favorite Rons. Even ROOTER didn’t bother me too much. FDR brought fond memories of after adopting an adorable puppy, our family watching Annie while discussing names for the little guy when my daughter looked up from the tv and shouted Roosevelt! We all agreed it was a fine name for a beagle mix.

@sotto voce Maybe you mean Peter Gabriel? I believe Robert Palmer was sneaking through the alley with Sally back in those days

@dutchiris I would also assume Judy Dench has no problem with DAME.

I believe that’s two pangrams in a row. Interesting way to start the week. Ouzo always makes me think of the 1984 worlds fair in New Orleans, the Greek exhibit’s lax carding policy became well known to the teenagers in town, many locals trace their first alcohol experience drinking Ouzo at the fair.

@Michael Weiland Maybe Gary Larson should change his name to Gerald Alabaster Larson III, esq. Might clear up some confusion in the comments 2-3 times a year

@Bill There’s a kind of history of New Orleans via street names by John Churchill Chase called “Frenchmen, Desire. Goodchildren, and other Streets of New Orleans “. Well worth a read. New Orleans is famously more of a crescent shape grid as opposed to square and the normal directionals (North, South, East and West) are rarely used, people are more apt to say, lakeside or riverside, uptown (west southwest) or downtown (northeast). Depending on the bridge one takes to get to the Westbank of the Mississippi you would travel Southwest (Luling bridge), Southeast (Huey P Long), due East (Crescent City Connection).

@Esmerelda My solve exactly. I went to bed with the bottom half complete but very little up top (with pLuG instead of FLOG slowing me down a bit) . Woke up and zipped through in <10 min. Slower than my average for Saturday with one confirmation look up for NEZPERCE of which I was not familiar.

@Steve L I believe Rob is referring to the column where she writes “The uvea is also called the vascular tunic, which sounds like a dress I’d like to own.” Now where’s my bloody tunic?!

@Kevin Between the pencil icon and the info icon there is a circle icon. If you’ve already completed the puzzle it asks if you want to clear the puzzle, however if you haven’t completed the puzzle it has the auto check option (as well as reveal letter or word etc) I use the “Games” app on my phone so the layout may be different

I enjoyed the puzzle, took me a minute to figure out the theme but once it clicked things sped up a bit. My favorite take on the “Who’s on first” bit is from “Kids in the Hall” with vaudevillians Mcguillicutty and Green. The whole skit is pretty hilarious but the relevant segment starts at 1:50 https://youtu.be/jFhvmCgs_L4?si=myZ-cgooW4Xw_lYV

@Michael B. Anyone who has been to the Popeyes on St Charles and Erato would definitely hesitate to call it a “fast food” establishment. That said this is where I also kenned the theme today.

@Rich in Atlanta I think it has to do with brand names. I noticed this with OREO, Pre Shortz OREO was never clued as the cookie but “mountain: comb. form”. I assume GTO had a similar restriction. Emu food ( Oreos)

@Chris I know right? Innova and Dynamic didn’t work. Though I do remember way back in the early 90s there were people who would use Ultimate Frisbees on the disc golf courses we used to play on so I guess it works. Amatuers!
