Broke my record for Thursdays by nearly 7 minutes from just under 21 minutes to just under 14. I am always suspicious of Thursdays, so I immediately got the trick as soon as I hit 15A. I originally thought 62A was a Dr. Seuss creation, but realized it couldn't be when I got to 56D and realized there are no bond ratings with an R in them. Glad there weren't too many culture references. I only had trouble with 51A, 20D, 54D, and the aforementioned 56D, but luckily all of the crossers were easy enough.
Did anyone else read 10D as "anonymously" and never notice the t until after solving it and being confused as to how that fit the clue? Cuz I sure did. A little slower than my Tuesday average, but I've been improving and hitting faster than average for so long that it was bound to happen eventually.
As a mostly monolingual with elementary Spanish, I did not understand the theme until having it explained here. Never made the connection between the two meanings of DOS. I was racking my brain to try to figure out how that turned into a WORLDSERIES. Luckily the theme clues were fairly easy to figure out on their own or had enough crossers to get.
@Bruce This was definitely my first encounter that I can remember. I was very confused when I had OUE and thought it must be wrong so I doubted MUTT was right. I was also tripped up by the spelling of LEILA, so I was having a lot of trouble with 40A.
Loved the rebus. My only complaint is that for CINDERBLOCK, the breaks were in the middle of the words instead of in between each word like the rest of the rebussed acrosses.
