Thank you for a wonderful Thursday crossword and for sharing your personal journey of healing from trauma. I wasn't sure of the theme until I had 43D solved. Then I was like "oh... ohhhh... ahah!" Great word play. Thanks Garrett - this truly brightened my day... and right-brained my day. :)
I'm reminded of the black-and-white movie within a movie scene in "Singing in the Rain" where the 'dueling cavalier' Pierre is nodding and saying 'Yes, Yes, Yes' and the women is shaking her head and saying 'No, No, No'... but the audio is messed up so she's actually shaking to 'Yes, Yes, Yes' and he's nodding to 'No, No, No' Enjoyed it -- really!
An enjoyable Saturday solve. Having recently rewatched the Lead Balloon episode of Myth Busters made 17D funnier to me than maybe most. Thanks Luke - love this grid pattern and your clue design.
Maybe it's just me and being a certain age, but this week's Saturday puzzle felt more like a Friday puzzle. Great trivia and a lot of fun.
Interestingly, for me, this solve was way more straightforward than yesterday's. I just couldn't get in a groove with the Friday puzzle. The Saturday grid I sometimes dread but today it was a reminder of how satisfying a themeless can be. I guess I'm on Rafael's wavelength, at least today. :)
A fun theme and today I had a lucky break of adding Nestle chocolate chips to my granola before starting to solve this one.
Enjoyable rebus until I got to 49D "Huts" - the negative connotations around the use of that word in that way, especially apartheid South Africa in the 70s and 80s, evoked some bad memories. Maybe that's just me... Could have been clued as "Sailor rhythms" perhaps?
