@Steve L I like when it’s a debut puzzle maker because they break the mold. I’m tired of the same old repetitive cluing and I’m sorry to hear you’re not. It’s good to break out of your comfort zone and have to think a little bit differently sometimes. Good for your neural pathways and all that…

@Jhamje I think any Wikipedia frequenter would. However, I ended up with - - O R - - A and could only think of Florida to fit that pattern. I kept putting it in and confusing myself until I was humbled enough to remove it long enough to figure it out.

@Laura it’s another term for dreadlocks. Protective hairstyles are ones that protect the hair from fraying or elements. Braids, twists, dreadlocks, etc. Now you know!

In my opinion there should’ve been a space between the first and second part of the theme clues. I finished the entire puzzle not understanding the theme, and that’s only happened to me once or twice in 15 years of crosswording. For example, “Id entity?”, “Hi king?”. Just enough to let you know something funny is going on with these two parts, but not enough to give it away (not capitalized the first two letters).

Far too easy for a Saturday in my opinion, 10 minute solve. There were several clues that should be reserved for M-Th only. To be fair, I did still enjoy solving it!

@Banjo Nelson Personally I didn’t like BISMARCKND as they don’t ever (almost ever I suppose) include state abbreviations when the answer is a US city or town. Especially without a hint about an abbreviation in the answer, as this puzzle did with other answers. Otherwise a great puzzle though for me!

@Bill in Yokohama I will agree that the puzzle in its entirety was easy, and I was able to fill out the themes answers with cross answers and just common sense, but I finished the entire puzzle without knowing what the theme was. It wouldn’t really have made it easier, just given a hint as to what was going on imo.
