So so clever. Not easy to fit that much clever in a normal puzzle size.

I had three big mistakes. Like I had "space" not "office". Through me off so badly. But I got there.

The term is magicAL realism. I got it right off except it didn't fit. Using magicrealism bothers me.

This was easy for me. It all depends on what words you know. I knew it was the NATO alphabet (and I know that that isn't the real name). But I'm a stop at Wed solver.

@Sara The NYPD styles itself as New York's Finest, the NYFD responded with New York's Bravest. It is the whole thing.

@Bruce It has to. Having spaces from end to end, not matter the level, forced the alteration everywhere.

Reunes bothered me to. The others not. Jetsam is what you throw overboard so that you don't sink, it makes you lighter in the water. So not the stuff that floats if possible. You toss heavy stuff. Jetsam is unlikely to be floatsam.

@Heidi Exactly. I knew the answer but only filled in the U since there were so many options.

I did close to my normal on this but I didn't get most of the clever clues. I solved them by the cross and then saw it. For some, for others I didn't realize what I'd done until I read this description. I need to get better at this.

24 Across is wrong. There are Semitic languages, there is an Afro-Semitic language group, but there are no Semitic people. Ethnicity is not genetics and neither ethnicity nor genetics are language. People get confused because the world "antisemitic" was invented to mean hatred of Jews. But that was the 19th century racist notion that ethnicity and language and race were connected. Calling Jews and Arabs Semites is the logic Germans used to call themselves Aryans.

@Darren An edda is an Icelandic epic poem. There are the Younger Eddas and the Elder Eddas. That's legit. Not like reunes.

@Charles Nelson Reilly I knew elfin, but had a wrong down. It took me awhile to go with elfin and erase the down.

Shouldn't it be: "for miles see I can"? And "a girl kissed I" and so on?

@James W This is one that I got but didn't like. It was unfilled until I had no choice.
