John, in Milan, would be Giovanni. Johnny would be closer to Gianni.

Challenging! Got through it, but there’s an error that was missed during editing. It may have led many down the wrong path, although the answer becomes clear eventually. The hit won for best record in 1978, not 1976.

@Peter C. Yes, I see that, but working from memory, and watching them win for best single in ‘78, I would’ve been better off not reading the clue at all, lol.

@Barry Ancona, I don’t spend hours finishing these crosswords, and while I read clues carefully, I rarely overthink them, and I did overthink this one. Sometimes, a grid entry solves itself.

@Barry Ancona I read the clue carefully, actually. I eventually got it as it became clear in the grid. If not an editing error, then this was indeed quite a trick. I read it as the title track being the hit song itself, or hit single. The album came out in late 1976. The song itself was released as a single in early 1977. So yes, this is a 1976 album, with a 1977 hit single of the same name, awarded the Grammy for best record in 1978.
