Can the constructors and editor(s) please stop using “Homo sapiens” and other gender-inclusive clues for the answer “man”? Maybe try “Socking it to the __” as the clue for once.

What gets under my skin is not the tricky nature of this Monday puzzle but rather the clue/answer combo of 8D. Once I determined that the editors let this highly gendered clue stand, I was mad for the rest of the puzzle. I mean come on, isn’t it standard now to say “human” and not “man” for Homo sapiens? The NYT puzzle editors should have caught this and helped the puzzle maker find a better clue.

Not a Tuesday level puzzle. Seems the “new” puzzle editor is still struggling with consistency in matching puzzles to days of the week and helping constructors tweak clues appropriately. I now often complete Fridays and Saturdays faster than ever and struggle arduously with a Tuesday like today.
