Sigh...and sigh ANEW. Easier and easier is the trend? A cute witty give-a-way-answers picture puzzle on Thursday. Note to puzzle publishing powers-that-be: You are not doing justice to Esha Datta's fun effort by placing it on a supposed challenging puzzle day. And re subscribers that welcome late-week mental workouts, what are we --chopped liver?
Umm... those lovely Oms awakened a cherished memory of 1967 California Summer of Love. I managed to get a ride in a VW bus with with long-haired meditation folks to Monterey Pop Festival. Had just finished 1st year at university and a favorite class was World Religions. Everything was serendipitous in those days. Thx for the memory, David J Kahn! Sometimes I skip Thursday puzzles. Glad I tackled and completed this one for the gold--those Oms kept me going. But like some others here, I had to read the column to put chance=chants together.
@Sandy Why don't you just appreciate that we are still allowed the gentle art of expressing different opinions and experiences in written words.
Neapolitan ice cream--not a good ice cream memory. Growing up in a family of 6 kids, my mother bought Neapolitan to please as many of us as possible. To me, the taste was all mixed up. No matter if I managed to carefully scoop vanilla without any chocolate or strawberry, I could still taste all 3 flavors. A travesty!
@ED L-O-L-A Lo Lo Lo Lo LOLA is right up there with BIFLAG and might be feeling left out of the group right about now?
TIL to spell WOOLLY MAMMOTH. That wasn't my guess for woolly, but I like it! In my experience, if a word looks spelled correctly, it almost always is. Might take awhile for this one to feel right. Maybe write it on the blackboard 100 times and then head back to my desk with the built in INKWELL. That's a another challenge. Left-handed writing with ink pen can be quite smudgy!
@HeathieJ Me too! I find it challenging to find new TV shows that I like and happily found Ludwig when I googled new Britbox offerings. Looking forward to more episodes!
@Charles Peterson I agree. Even if the pronunciations are not a perfect match, I doubt they're intended to be exact. That makes it one more mental leap to figure out. I admire that in a puzzle. To me it was like a dad joke groan followed by a laugh--I had to read the column to get it.
@Jaebum I think you are well on your way to solving one of these puzzles with no lookups! I like the challenge of learning new languages and enjoyed reading your post. "Napolean" ice cream makes perfect sense, doesnt it!

@Jancy Oops "Napoleon". My goodness, I was a 4th grade spelling bee champion. Reminder to self: read and read again carefully b4 submit.
@Michael G Yep 100% they hide during even the most diligent proofreading. But unlike laundry lost socks, they always show up. I'm a stickler for adding corrections. Drives my family crazy in phone texts.
@Lewis Same here for FULL NAME. I'm still amazed how much mental exercise went into completing that one when I already had 5 of 8 letters! I'm happy.

@Dan I liked it too. Maybe there truly is Thursday trickery here in the expection of fiendish twistiness from this capable constructor and instead encountering fun straightforward clues and wordplay.
