Ma Stiles

@Gareth Meaty can also mean satisfying or substantial. Either could apply to a vegan feast!

@Steve L Since it's a phonetic alphabet, it hardly matters. I have looked at printouts of the NATO alphabet and found it both ways.

@Lou Scheffer Right! We have some in southern Iowa, too, and they are definitely not papayas even though papayas sometimes are alternately called papaws.

@Matt It took me a little more than half again as long as you, but I was distracted by the Yankees trying to stay in the Series.

@Francis Regionally, submarine sandwiches have different names, such as heroes or torpedoes. Dope sheets contain the basic information needed for planning or making decisions, such as for handicapping a horse race to decide how to bet. Besides being a place where a bus or a train pulls in, a depot also may be basically a storage facility, maybe for munitions, which would make it an arsenal. (I don't mean to be an insufferable know-it-all. I just knew those three things and felt helpful.)

A cartoon cat, Mr. Jinks, loved (and alternately hated) the two mice, Pixie and Dixie; however, they were "meeces," not "meeses," being mice. He loved those meeces to pieces, at least sometimes. Thanks for spurring this memory of my childhood!

@Isabeau The drops or streaks on the inside of the wine glass after it is swirled are sometimes called legs, sometimes tears. How they move has to do with the difference in how alcohol and water evaporate and also how sweet or high in alcohol the wine is.

@Laura Have you ever noticed how many things in Boston have "hub" as a part of their names? I've seen grocery stores, places to eat, entertainment centers, community services, sports organizations, local television shows, and even the Sports Hub radio station. It just keeps cropping up once you start to notice it.

@Puzzled Demitasse did it for me.

@JMW I tried DELAYED RESPONSE first.

@Steven M. Spin serves have just been banned in pickle ball this year, too. A spin serve is when you quickly use your hand to spin the ball (or the shuttlecock if you are playing badminton) just before you hit it with your racquet.

@Bob S I thought of it as being tied with a score of seven points each. An announcer could say that the score was 7-up, and the opponents could also be said to be even Steven.

@sotto voce It will if you search for Maui Wowie cocktail. It's just that most things with a cannabis connection rather than an alcohol connection are becoming more popular these days.

@Menc Think about social media, especially short forms like FB for Facebook, Insta for Instagram, and Snap for Snapchat. Also, Twitter is now X. Do you see them climbing up the grid?
