Gotta say I didn't not particularly enjoy this and abandoned it before finishing, which is a rarity for me. It insisted upon itself.
Finally, ASUS! Every time there's a similarly-clued four-letter word, my head goes straight to ASUS and it's interesting to receive confirmation that I have never been right on first guess. It always ends up being ACER. What is admittedly a bit of bias for me goes back many years to when ACER was well-known for being a bargain-peiced manufacturer of computers and parts, whereas ASUS was one of few that seemed to focus on the higher performance end of the spectrum. Everybody makes "gaming" stuff now, so I don't know if my biases are accurate but, ALAS, they remain.
I was so hung up with the Xanadu answer having the wrong number of letters for "Rush" that that whole section tripped me up for several minutes and prevented me from finishing in a time that I would have been happy with. ELO. Psht.
Had a typo I had to track down or I would have finished in under 2:00!
Finally broke 1-minute! Didn't need the down clues so flew right through.
The smug is so thick in here I'm choking on it.
@Outlier 101 I say it. Never as a plural, like "that'll be two hundo." But if you are referring to one, single hundred-dollar bill. Like "oh man I think a hundo fell out of my wallet."
@Lars they've been replaced by whiteboards in every classroom I've seen in the last few years.
Did not care too much for that puzzle. It insisted upon itself.
@dutchiris this comment is exactly how I imagine smug crossword nuts patting themselves on the back when they know ridiculously obscure references in unenjoyable crossword puzzles. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope the lift it gave your ego serves you well. I thought it was a dreadful puzzle, though, and I don't have an ounce of regret for not having the slightest idea who these proper nouns are.
The only thing worse than a rebus in the crossword are all the commentors who like to take joy in others disliking them. It's the same people who enjoy puns. I find it all rather disgusting and it constantly makes me ask myself why on Earth do I even do these puzzles?
@Mean Old Lady Cod is the most delicious tho
Did not care for this puzzle. It insists upon itself.
@Steve L But ROI is usually clued as Return on Investment if my recent memory serves me well. How many times has it appeared as this meaning?
I hate puns so much. Whenever there is a puzzle like this it makes me want to quit crosswords forever.
@MExpat They're not funny at all but everyone acts like they are. It's like watching old episodes of Jay Leno's Tonight Show.
@Phoebe I agree. Felt like a Tuesday.
@CatDad kinda reads like a whiney post itself no?
@Brian Monahan easy Tuesday but slightly tricky Monday. I won't complain.
@suejean speak for yourself. Rebus puzzles suck.
@Bill https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_geometry The 2d surface surrounding 3d space is the literal definition of a geometrical SOLID.
@Mortiser I thought it felt exactly like a Thursday - crossing the line into too annoying to find satisfying to solve.
