While it was nice to see my country's currency as a clue at 33D, I should point out that the word "Naira" is an invariant noun like "deer" or "sheep". As such, ₦1 is "One Naira" and ₦1000 is "One Thousand Naira". Other than that, a pretty fun solve.
As a Nigerian who has never been to the USA, it is fascinating to see so many complaints about how "easy" this was for a Saturday puzzle when I was forced to turn to Google a number of times. Times constructors never seem to consider that their audience might not be entirely made up of persons versed in the esoteric provincial trivia they're so fond of cluing - such as the name of the junior Senator from Hawaii, the maker of a juice brand primarily found in US stores, or the direction of travel between US states (and thanks for the geography lessons, truly). I see some are bemoaning that the Saturday puzzle is now 'too easy' because the Times is chasing subscribers. If that is the case, I’m sure y'all would be glad to fork over $17,492,834.67 per month as your subscription if it keeps the rabble out. So, by all means, you may vent and rage, and bemoan that the Saturday puzzle has "gone woke", but consider that for so many of us, only the cost of replacing a phone prevents us from yeeting ours on a Saturday morning.
@Weak well, I happen to be a native English speaker having been taught in, written, and conversed in English for my entire life (thanks, Great Britain!). However, seeing as the Times doesn't reject my subscription dollars on account of my geographic location, it makes sense that the heavily American-centric nature of the crossword clues can be a tad frustrating at times. All that being said, today's puzzle was quite accessible, and I enjoyed solving SWEETANDSOUR, INTERNETTROLL, and ARMOREDCAR, even if the missing "U" in the latter offended my British Grammar textbooks
@a I don't think weekend puzzles have become easy at all, let alone insultingly so. Perhaps the Times can introduce a special "brainbreaker" tier for those of you who expect to spend 4 hours slogging through a Saturday morning crossword
