Count me among those who thinks Hindi shindig doesn't make sense. Hindi is just a language, not a religion or culture, and the words themselves come from Sanskrit. I see that some people have made the argument that it works because people who celebrate speak Hindi. A) Not everyone does, and B) many celebrants speak English, but I'm guessing no one would call Diwali or Holi an English shindig.
