WHOM has fallen into disuse? I’d say it’s fallen into misuse.
First Thanksgiving without my husband. We would have been married 43 years ago yesterday. We got married on Black Friday to give ourselves a weekend “honeymoon” at home. Tiny wedding, second for both of us. Cost at most $500. Celebrating quietly with my daughter. So this puzzle was a fun diversion. Didn’t get theme until almost the end, but I grinned when it clicked. SATURNINE is in my vocabulary, but not used much (AT ALL!) in my everyday conversation. I thought, NATURE?? MATURE?? The aha moment was very satisfying. So, perhaps TMI, but I needed to spill, and I feel like I know many of you. I’m grateful for the years I had with Harvey, and for the loved ones who remain — and for this group. Happy Thanksgiving.
@Hope Levav I also look forward to a Sunday theme. This was a clever puzzle, easier than it first appeared to be. I haven’t checked out the crossword comments lately, and am surprised to find ART HEIST was disliked by many solvers. Once the “aha” moment arrived, I thought it was great fun.
Not too hard, not too soft. Just right.
So where’s the power grid? Or is that a description of a themeless puzzle?
Oh good grief. What a stretch.
@RandallP. My thoughts exactly.
I could not have solved this one without Wordplay explaining the theme. That’s never happened to me before. I didn’t like it.
Wow. Just… wow. I solved the puzzle over 18 minutes faster than my average, and had no idea what it was getting at until I read Woedplay. Dazzling construction.
Very satisfying solve. Gentle misdirection. It was one big dad joke! Had not heard of RISSOLE. One more for the vocab list.
Very satisfying solve. Started last night. Finished this morning over coffee.
@Bobby “Sailing, sailing, over the bounding main” is what did it for me. But I agree, not a Tuesday clue.
Loved the cluing. Made me smile. I fell for every misdirect. Fun puzzle, solved what k didn’t know on the crosses.
That was a ton of fun. My first “aha” was RASCAL.
Too tired to read the column. Maybe I’ll suss out the theme in the morning. Easy solve, but the theme escapes me. And a pox on Harry Potter and Star Trek references. Never had any use for either one of them. Time to pass out. Happy puzzling
I solved this puzzle quickly, but had no idea what the theme was until I read WordPlay. I still don’t understand MCCARTNEY.
Easyish, but i had to come here to ubderstand the theme i don't love it when that happens Some ckever cluing i appreciated IAMB Everthing I know about Harry Potter I learned frkm the NYT crossword
