@Andrzej I only got it after you listed all the other isms (I'd been equally flummoxed about it while solving)... In this case, it's merely a suffix that is used with the word plural - pluralism.

@Mean Old Lady I too had "Toga!" for too long, and was initially as surprised as you were about puppy chow before remembering that it's a name for a Midwestern party snack. (I'd never heard of it until my 30s, when a colleague mentioned that was their contribution to a potluck, and couldn't fathom why they were bringing dog food until I saw the dish itself.) My brain/trivia archive just wasn't in the space for this one, but there's always another crossword tomorrow!

@Morgan Wick i noticed it today, on an Android, with the puzzles that disappeared when the new crossword was released (I haven't moved to the new sudoku yet). And they were buggy when some numbers were filled in (still showing 4s and 9s as candidates though I'd already entered the 4 and the 9 in one set). I am pretty sure it's a bug and not some sort of strange feature.

@Down_Home I only learned of that context from the show The Newsroom years ago, and this is the first time that bit of trivia came in handy!

@Nick I wonder if you made the same mistake I just resolved... At 23A, I had one particular letter (which goes with how it *sounds* like it should be shortened to), instead of the letter that complies with how the full word is spelled. Trying to be very cryptic so as not to give it away.
