The Mini is incorrect. It is "Lira," not "Lire". We would not say that the currency of the U.S. is "the Dollars." We don't say the currency of then E.U. is the "Euros."
Overly forced theme with inconsistincies, switching between plural and singular body PARTS, when the theme was TWOPART. Other forced clues made this absurd for a Tuesday. "LAY" for "ballad?" Really?
Just here to complain about "ARON."
Feels like NYT switched Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
In physical therapy I had to use a "stretch board" which according to the constructor's logic, would make STRETCH "ABOARD." I think that would be a bit of a stretch, just as today's theme was. Also, negative points for CUKE. I can't stand it as an answer, and a cucumber is botanically a fruit, so I can't stand the clue, either.
@Barry Ancona And the clue reads "currency replaced by *THE* euro"
Fun to see my hometown and one of my all time favorite bands in this puzzle. NW corner got crunchy for me, making it an interesting little Tuesday challenge.
@WM That's exactly what the clue says.
@The X-Phile Not my favorite theme in the world, but I would have been able to forgive it, if not for SEIGE. It's not pronounced that way, and destroys the theme.
@JH It's a Space Opera, which is a sub-genre of... Science Fiction. This isn't a hill to die on.
For me, clues in a fun puzzle can be dubious but easy to get, or factually correct and hard to get. The dubious ones in this puzzle were easy to get, so it still made for a fun solve overall. But I still think we could do better. Why have dubious clues at all?
@sotto voce Currency is named in the singular, as per above.
@B t The CURRENCY of the U.S. is the DOLLAR, not the DOLLARS.
@Mike Jimmy Eat World was a pioneer of Emo. What are you talking about?
