TIL that “enisle” is a word. Seems particularly apt timing for this vocabulary addition as I’m currently reading Count of Monte Cristo.

Seems apt that wordplay features prominently in a puzzle that quotes from an author who was so enamored of wordplay. A really fun puzzle!

Really enjoyed this puzzle from the punny theme answers to the wording of the clues, which felt fresh, not just the usual stand-by phrases. Great job Rena!

Ah, good old Prell. Got a bottle of it in my teens at my hairdresser’s suggestion to strip the “temporary” burgundy color with which I colored my light brown hair (in hindsight, maybe “strip” isn’t a word I would want associated with the cleaning power of a product for my hair). Alas, though my hair was eventually less burgundy with the regular use of Prell, it did go through a period of being decidedly orange before returning to brown. And though I know this song isn’t by Gloria Gaynor, it’s the first one I thought of reading 29 across, so I will posit it as a song title option: “My Bell, You Can Ring.”

@Barry Ancona while this is technically true, solvers shouldn’t be penalized for using a rebus to help them visualize the answers.

@Mean Old Lady I was confused by the Nancy Drew answer as well. I thought “cover girl” because there was frequently a picture of her in action on the cover of the books…?

@Barry Ancona I’m simply pointing out that allowing for multiple ways of presenting the solution doesn’t take away from your enjoyment, but it may increase it for someone who processes information differently than you. I have played many other rebus puzzles where there were at least two different presentations were considered correct.
