@Marshall Walthew I put artpop too. Fortunately I thought about the "rsd" crossing it created and realized there was no way that was correct. But I ended up having to scour the puzzle at the end for a different single letter error. For some reason my brain cannot retain names and I once again typed Alita instead of ALITO. The crossing didn't even seem unreasonable to silly ol' me. Aceans totally seemed like it could be some obscure word.
@Barry Ancona Treacle was top of mind for me because I've been watching Taskmaster recently. In season 11, one of the contestants does a bit where the Taskmaster's house is haunted and it lures Alex Horne in with puppies covered in treacle. I can't say where I'd first heard of treacle before, but I definitely would have struggled with that fill if I didn't have that show reminding me of it!
@Beth I looked back at GI JOES while trying to fill that down answer because I thought maybe it was wrong. But I was too confident about BAR TRIVIA and ART MAJORS for GI JOE to possibly be wrong. If I didn't have those two fills I definitely would have removed GI JOES like you did.
I caught onto the theme immediately after hitting Home Alone. Too bad I didn't know the subtitles for any of the other sequels! I couldn't even get to a position where I could make educated guesses on the left side of the grid. Too many strange words (stranger than I would expect on a Wednesday). At least I wasn't the only one who ended up looking them up. The autocomplete from my preferred search engine was suggesting the sequel above the original, something I that seems unlikely if there weren't suddenly a bunch of people searching that.
