Just an observation as a friend of Dorothy... Before the film of The Wizard of Oz was ever made, there was Dorothy Parker's Round Table at the Algonquin. Some believe that group may be the origin of the phrase, several decades earlier.

@Byron indeed it can be, but French speakers assume it's a pâté unless one of the other forms is mentioned. But I know I'm being pedantic about it. Thanks and also for overlooking my autocorrected 'four' instead of 'foie.'

Great puzzle and lots of fun. If I may be a tad pedantic about one clue... As a French speaker, "four gras" is by definition a pâté and thus unnecessary within the clue itself. To call it a "pâté de fois gras" is redundant. Thanks for a pleasant solve.
