Ms Baik, Take a bow! Great puzzle! You should feel extremely proud!! Perfect balance of fun and challenge. I look forward to your future endeavors!
@Ted I'm sure your comment is in jest, but I say bring it on K.Zhou. (I barely made a dent in this puzzle until Deb's help, but there's no denying it was extremely clever. And I'm hoping next time I'll be on his wavelength)
@D Nota Bene literally means in Latin "Note Well" It's a way of saying what follows is important. Deet is an effective insect repellent, but controversial for its toxicity concerns. Adz is a tool similar to an axe. Hope this helps.
What a delightful solve!! And love the punster father-daughter team's collaboration and notes. It was a nice challenge for me. Just enough to require some effort before the spaces started filling up. Kudos to you both!
@dvdmgsr My mom, born in 1925, rarely had a harsh word for anyone, but if she said this person was a real "so and so," we knew it was her polite way of saying this person was someone she did not care for. The rest of us with a similar sentiment would have used words far more colorful.
Congratulations Patrick Hayden for a great puzzle and delightful constructor notes. Looking forward to your next one! Alas, not knowing any of those shows I couldn't figure out the 2nd half of the theme, but still loved it.
I was initially thinking dill, etc. like you Deb. Great misdirection. And fun, clever puzzle! Thank you Aimee Lucido! I look forward to what you create next!
@Patrick Im missing the context, so this may be completely off, but I use TV Ads. I'm curious as to what you are referring to.
@LJADZ I highly recommend her book, "The God Of Small Things."
@Nancy J. 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the chuckles!
@Kimberly Love the Nascar moment:) I think you'll find your answers make more sense as GOL( like Goal), YETI, and yes , Bossanova. Hope that helps.
@Francis No rabbit:). Just bread, melted cheese- sometimes ham and cooked with beer. Not sure why it's associated with the Welsh, but recently had some "authentic" Welsh rarebit in Belgium:). I'd put it in the category of "comfort food."
Great puzzle Kelly Morenus! My initial go-through was spare! Speaking of spare things, I thought the answer HAD to be ribs:)! Spent awhile in that corner. Finally got everything but Tnia and Ennead. Thanks for the fun! And I learned some things too!
Hats off to Mr. Wagner for a great puzzle! On another note: Excuse me for mentioning MY pet peeve Deb. I find too many solvers judge the merit of each puzzle based on their ability to solve it. The "easy" ones often get great reviews/comments, whereas the more challenging ones often get negative, even rude comments. I wish solvers would take a moment to reflect on the effort it takes to create ANY crossword puzzle accepted by the NYTs. And whether or not the solver found it easy or difficult should not reflect its worth.
@Derek Jones I was confused by "atob" awhile back thinking it was one word and not "a to b":)!! LATOSCA relates to the opera Tosca and as per the clue, the drama it was based on was "La Tosca." Acad is from US Military ACADemy Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your comment, but hope this makes it less brutal.
@Steve H What a treat! And it's about time, Steve Martin( I'll say no more, but give a listen)! Thank you so much for sharing.
@Barry Ancona Thanks:)! Maybe it's a generational thing. I grew up calling them TV ads.
@Andrzej Actually, this one is.
@Leapfinger It must be quite obscure:). I'm familiar with his For Esme--With Love and Squalor
