Not my favorite. I would still really encourage the NYT editors to come up with a better way to indicate that a rebus is a part of the puzzle other than having to go to the solvers notes article to confirm that this is the case.

You know it’s tough when you are pulling up your W2 to file a tax…er…crossword. Low and behold FICA was nowhere to be found on mine

@A Came here to say this - googled both of them and thought - “I still don’t know who these people are.” Used lookups for both of those answers and feel no remorse over it. If I wanted to do a crossword with trivia from 1971 I could go back to the archive.
