It was the Beatles clue that tipped me off as well! I would have thought most people who graduated high school could manage exponents, but this is not a place I would have expected them. Well done!
@lujoc have you filled in the squares with the missing letters as a rebus? I haven’t completed this puzzle yet, but I learned recently about the rebus button (accessed by using the More button in the bottom left-hand corner of your crossword keyboard) and a lot of things finally fell into place.
