I aced this puzzle in 34 minutes. What? I haven't yet read the description nor understand the some of the clues. Shocked by being the 16th commenter. I'm avoiding knowing the outcome of the election by doing puzzles, although I did cry a little tonight for the world.
I was tickled and slightly shocked today when I achieved a Saturday Gold Star in 29 minutes. I don't rush, look things up, or try for a streak. I'm just enjoying the AHA moments! (with all you folks!)
Did this puzzle elicit a higher-than-normal number of complaints? Oops, opinions....Sure seems so...It's a PUZZLE, not a personal letter, have fun with it. Hey, maybe Thursday's will be 'a piece of cake' (common American idiom) and 'right up your alley'.
Agnes Varda, French film director. There's a wonderful 2017 documentary with and about her life. Search out "Faces Places".
I definitely puzzled over this Sunday grid and chuckled when I finally opted for the reveal. But the Bacardi clue was a snap--I was sipping on a tall, cold glass of rum, pineapple juice and soda!
@Mary I've also noticed that. Oh well, what else is new? Just another subtle devaluation...
@joepb. Tabasco is the correct spelling (just in case it turns up in a crossword.) Have you tried Crystal Hot Sauce? My go-to these days...
I started this puzzle at 3am local time and picked it up at 3pm to fill in the last few squares. By then I'd forgotten the under the "C" trick and finally checked the answers. Now I know to review the whole grid!
@Joan Sudoku doesn't use math, it's a logic puzzle. Rather than numbers, letters or symbols could be used. Calcudoku, on the other hand, does require adding and multiplying.
@John Then don't look anything up. Finish the puzzle, or not, all on your own!
Fabulous museum, the totem poles are spectacular.
@Francis I've learned that many folks don't pick up on my witty or ironic quips in person. In written form, 'fogettaboutit'.
@dutchiris Me, too. Tahoe? Does Chevy make an SUV called Tahoe? I don't use a Mac but now I know that the Apple company uses California place names. How about Weed or Death Valley? Happy Camp? Berzerkley!
@DF In answer to your 'whingers' comment--Yes! I was just thinking that there seems to be a lot of grumpy, practically snide posts back and forth. Not fun to read. Puzzle=Relaxation. Come on dudes, chill out. (Was there a mention of adult gummies?)
@Amy. 1960 Winter Olympics, Squaw Valley (now called Palisades Tahoe) California. Base elevation 6,200'.
@Geoff Offermann. Yes, and often an added or missing letter which makes the connection (!). Some trick, which is hard for me to see, too... Hope you're back on your feet soon!
