This was an incredible puzzle! Fun and clever without being too difficult. I didn't realize the bonus of the "classes" until I read the wordplay column. Bravo! I'm even more impressed by the fact that the creator grew up in Syria and Lebanon attending Arabic schools and is now an English teacher and has such a grasp of language and culture to be able to pull off a superb crossword creation. I'm off to make some hummus in honor of a great Sunday solve!

I look forward to the Thursday puzzle every week and this did not disappoint! I figured out the red/green rebus pretty quickly but did not get that they were stand-ins for stop/go until I came to the column. I almost like it when a creator makes me feel a like a DODO when the trick is revealed. Thanks Mr. DiPietro, I loved it!

Deb, It’s been such a pleasure to have your warm and witty insight over these years. Like many others here, I got into solving over the pandemic and never left, I think in no small part due to the approachable discussion and camaraderie that you, Ms. Amlen, helped facilitate. The NYT crossword community is indeed one of the nicest corners of the internet…even when it’s grumpy;) I wish you all the very best and hope you come back and visit from time to time.

@Murhatroid I have only heard the phrase “jack diddly squat” from older folks when I was growing up in the South. In my mind it’s a colorful way to describe a feeling of frustration when your hard work amounts to zip. For example: “ the varmits got into my bean field so we got ‘jack diddly squat’ to can this year”.

This was an excellent puzzle, thank you! Also I’m glad that 16A (What Anora and Vanya do…) didn’t have four letters. Sheesh, my dirty mind was insisting on entering: Eff You See Cay
