Today I learned that FRUITBAT and SQUIRREL have the same number of letters and the UI in the same position. Boy, did that add a layer of difficulty to the right side that was already difficult!
Obscure kiddie movie references? Hardly! Every one of the Pixar films in the rebus answers was nominated for an OSCARSSTATUE for best animated feature and quite a few of them won that category. Some took home the best original song too. This puzzle was a really enjoyable solve for me: no look ups, and it clicked for me when I had entered CARS and when I entered UP, I knew the task at hand. Before UP, I thought maybe it was music groups. (I didn’t check the title of the puzzle before hand, and I’m so glad I didn’t!)
@DeniseLK a command to an animal pulling a wagon to turn left is “Haw”, and to turn right is “Gee.”
I found this puzzle to be really clever and fun (and a fast solve), then jumped in to read the creator’s comments. I was just part way through the story and was hoping for a o-chem partner romance (chemistry of the most fun kind) and then my heart just broke! I’m convinced Arjun would have loved it. Thoroughly enjoyed the clueing (the under 21 was my favorite) and marveled at the construction just opening it. Well done!!
I spent too long considering if a BURP could be a sign of OK, as in the end of a meal, and it still feels more logical than a BEEP. It was that TENREC cross that did me in because thanks to videos of a button-talking dog named Bunny, I’ve been led to believe Tenrec is dog, is family, is friend - but never “is hedgehog-like animal from Madagascar.”
@Appreciative - the warp are the vertical threads, and weft are horizontal. Warp is up and down, weft goes weft and right.
