I appreciate the callback to the recent-ish Ebert puzzle. Sneaky little clue that I never would have gotten otherwise, but quite funny! Kudos to the constructors - as a high schooler I tried and failed to compose Times crosswords, and I’m always impressed by those with the gift.
New PB despite some struggles with proper nouns. Good solid Monday. I appreciated 28D/60D. Congrats to the constructors on their debut!
What a delightful puzzle! I am mildly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of theme material, but also deeply impressed. Hats off to the constructor. I can't imagine how long this took, even with the crossword gods aiding you. I've never seen anything Star Trek but a combination of cultural osmosis and luck got me through all the theme clues, and I had a lovely time doing it.
New PB on this one! Lovely Monday, gentle start to the week.
Truly crushed by the paywalling of the crossword right as my winter break begins. I was really looking forward to trying to keep a streak while I was home and had free time. I suppose I’ll find another crossword to do :( Thanks to the crossword community here for being so helpful to a novice constructor! I wrote crosswords for my school paper in high school and learned quite a bit about what my classmates would like and dislike from the comments here. Good luck to Deb Amlen as well. I wish her all the best in retirement!
@Clutch Cargo I don’t do the mini very often. I was referring to the 15x15 crossword. I have a student subscription, but it’s shouldn’t be due to expire for a good bit longer. I did Wednesday’s on Tuesday night and opened the app this morning to find the crossword unavailable and telling me to buy a games subscription. Opening it on my computer gave the same message. Unfortunately I have not been able to figure out what changed between Tuesday and today.
Got stuck on the idea of "someone else" for 30A... I was wondering what a jURSE was. Whoops. 9D is new to me as well. Fun theme -- I had the jumbled letters idea before I got the revealer.
@Sam it's worth noting that many people do the crossword because they enjoy learning about new things. I don't know a bit about Star Trek (besides what I've picked up from popular culture, anyway) but I had a lovely time today admiring the incredible effort it must have taken to make this theme work so thoroughly.
