I so wished that "In which you might confront the elephant in the room?" had ended up being CAUCUS!
@WFUV News Room Per ChatGPT: "The film you're describing is Le Petit Nicolas (2009), directed by Laurent Tirard. It's based on the beloved French children's book series written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Jean-Jacques Sempé. The scene you mentioned is part of a holiday sequence where Nicolas' father, played by Kad Merad, is doing a crossword puzzle on the beach while his son, Nicolas, is wearing an uncomfortable wool bathing suit. The father’s comment about never giving up on a crossword puzzle serves as a metaphor for persistence and perseverance."
@Jane Wheelaghan "righty" is short for "right-handed".
@Barry Ancona Yes, by Appel and Haken in 1976. And then again, via a much shorter/simpler (but still computer-assisted) proof by Robertson, Sanders, Seymour and Thomas in 1996. https://thomas.math.gatech.edu/FC/fourcolor.html
Brilliant puzzle! But is the clue for 67A (Occasion for fireworks: Abbr.) correct? Don't the fireworks displays typically start at midnight (so NYD rather than NYE)?
