Anyone know what's up with OPE? I thought I was well traveled enough and weird enough to at least recognize most of the nation's idioms, but I've never heard this one. Glad to have the puzzle this strange and unsettling morning.
@Barry Ancona Interesting! Definitely have never heard this, but now I will never forget it. It's amazing how much I've gleaned over the years from doing the x-word. Thank you.
Thank you for 126, made my day 😁
Sad there's no trick or treats today 😔
@Bill This is the opening chapter of a CPer's memoir. My Brain on Coffee and the Grid. Ain't we got fun?
Thank you for all the three-letter words. Made it much easier to solve. (Under 9 today with my partner!) Favorite answer = BOO OFFSTAGE ... the constructor's finesse and solver's nagging doubt on the triple letter
40 across: talk about "Greek to me"! Sheesh
@Barry Ancona Interesting! Definitely have never heard this, but now I will never forget it. It's amazing how much I've gleaned over the years from doing the x-word. Thank you. Sounds oddly Filipino, actually, from family experience. Funny that it comes from the American Midwest!
I appreciate the shout-out to my son's band, @cabin_feverband, but nobody admits to having a pocketful of "hundos" except for nerdy gangsters.
@Hamza if it's a sponsorship it doesn't bother me that much but I agree that it's puzzling. Why not something healthy like raw almonds or more universally enjoyed like flan or lava cake (both of which can be made vegan and gluten free)? Other than the vowel-rich spelling, Oreos are better in the memory and imagination than irl.
@J Mo actually, some are and some aren't, I don't know why. My kids are galactosemic so I gotta read the labels on everything and we discovered that while Oreos are milk-free in some parts of the United States, in other parts they contain milk-based products. (At our local Costco they're okay.)
