This was a terrific puzzle. What cleverness to find answers that work with or without the double letters and in both directions. I'll admit I had to get help to finish it because of both the trickiness of the clues and words I just didn't know. But that will help me in the future. My one quibble is the location for a burning bush (43A). I think the most accepted answer is Horeb, stated in the full story in the Bible's old testament. A later reference in the new testament mentions Sinai. Of course scholars debate whether they are the same or different locations. Ultimately, in this case, the crossword judges rule on the side of Sinai. Thanks for the fun!
@KS It took me a while to get that one. Think about measuring units, then it makes sense. And it's a Friday puzzle, after all.
@Barry Ancona Your response is perfection!
@AG That's exactly what I entered when I was whizzing along filling in acrosses. The downs told me I wasn't as clever as I thought.
@Whoa Nellie I wish I could give your comment multiple revommends! I started reading it and sensed a certain rhythm. Came to the "Times' way" and jumped into song. So good, I had to go through it again until I had tears in my eyes from laughter. Thank you!!!
I finished the puzzle (had to just try some letters in a couple of spots), but I still don't understand the lateral symmetry said to be in the answers. I have looked and looked and can't see it. Could someone please explain it to me? Thanks. Overall, I liked the puzzle; I just like to understand the features also.
