I liked the breaking of taboo by duplicating the answers. Felt very fresh as far as themes go. Fill was a little rough, so I won't give myself grief for looking a few things up. I will say by the time I got close to the finish my brain was done, and I had to look up AVON because I simply couldn't remember it. I even had the A and the N! :'(

I don't usually comment on puzzles but once I cottoned on to the theme I really enjoyed this one. Hit me just right :) great work!

@dutchiris nah, if he's building crosswords for the NYT, he should probably get his plurals correct. My 9yo was particularly aggrieved, having selected octopuses for her undersea project. Also we are all crossword fans here, and nothing if not highly dedicated to pedantry.

Enjoyed this very much, with the exception of ATTAWAY, which I can say I've never heard in my life. But then again, it might be I am just an underachiever;)

Fun, but TELLAFIB isn't my favorite answer for that particular clue and ODIE isn't a toon. I guess when I see "toon" in a crossword context I think "animated", though, so maybe that one is on me.

I need to stop doing Mondays on my phone. Too many typos and too distracted by a fun theme. Plus I got caught on OPUSES - I had led with ETUDES and did not catch my error until it was too late. NEMADS? What are NEMADS????

I love learning a new word via a puzzle! No idea what settee was until today. Fun puzzle, plus new vocabulary equals a good Friday.

@LordBottletop I would agree it would be part of a kid's known song list, but only to a point - and that point was probably 50 years ago

@Ian T. I was not yet out of kindergarten at the time, unfortunately. My only experience with Garfield is in the form of collections of the strip at my grandmother's. But good to know for the future if I'm ever required to cough up Garfield trivia at gunpoint or something.
