No thanks on this one. Nothing much to learn and have to redo the rebus squares to figure out whatever arbitrary format is accepted.
SO SWEET that the answers included THATLL DO
Cool trick the paired clues for GMAIL and ISLAM.
Like the puzzle, loved to see Eyre in there. Didn’t like a lot of the clues. Not difficult per se, just didn’t get much amusement out of the effort to get through them. I need to start tying to make puzzles instead of complaining about other people’s clues 😝
lol worth it for the groan when I finally saw it.
Brand associated with push-ups? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yay we got RIFF instead of VAMP today. And some delightful trivia.
I guess some found it easy but I found myself amused and a little slowed down by just how literal some of the answers were. I look at a clue like “Oranges, but not apples” and start assuming it’s got to be something trickier than CITRUS 😝 And penciled a few wrong before checking crosses. MYBAD/ILOSE, PETCARE/ANIMALS, GEEKS/NERDS.
Wanton doesn’t pair well with idle. Ennead has religious/cultural implications that don’t jive with the clue. And if I have to look up an actor’s name it’d be nice if it was at least someone more significant. Could’ve been more fun with different clues.
Completely BSed my way through NW. Never heard of that cosmetics brand. Smells a little like a marketing ploy 😜
Loved TODAYYEARSOLD, even more cause it helped open up the LH. SOVIET crossing MEER tickles. That one took a while. At one point had GENESIS instead of GENESET. Didn’t get that corner straightened til peeking HAT and ATTACKAD here. I’d like to think I’d have gotten ANKLETAT if it hadn’t popped up while looking but oh well. Just embarrassed that I had to look up RAYKROC when ARK was staring me in the face. All in all, not a great choice to try this one during a bout of insomnia! Fine puzzle though.
@Anonymous I can understand saying a clue “doesn’t make sense” even if I can figure it out. I was able to figure out the first clue in this puzzle but it’s still “doesn’t make sense” in that it doesn’t hang together grammatically and conceptually in a satisfying way to me. Same for a lot of the other clues. Sometimes this comment section has a toxic positivity vibe, if anyone doesn’t like the puzzle they’re piled on for being negative.
Bad from the start. Too many clues just manipulated to be harder vs actually clever or funny. Engineering as a discipline or process doesn’t engage gear teeth, they’re engaged in machines. In app purchases are only “on the go” because “mobile” would be too easy of a clue. Someone else already pointed something similar out for capo (mandolin just makes it a “harder” clue vs guitar. These things don’t enhance the word play or enjoyment as much, they’re just annoying.
@Becca and my name isn’t Ionabut 😝 yeah I get that it’s a group of nine but the vibe is off, that’s all.
@HEK jive has been used as a variant of jibe for some time now. You live under a rock?
@Steve L Yet I don’t get the idea that you are at all confused about my meaning. In other ways maybe at sea, tho. Notice how all the enneads you cited from previous puzzles are more god-like, celestial? Just because something is correct doesn’t make it a fun clue. But you like correcting people so maybe it was fun for you. Love that for you, bestie.
Open cases? Who would call them that vs cold cases? Weird. Lots of clues that were not hard but just felt kind of off like that. Bleh.
@Nancy J. They are both unsolved mysteries. Not saying the clue is wrong, just not very satisfying.
@Steve L far as I can tell the name is the brand. Sheesh.
@Amy omg thank you I was going crazy trying to spot what I had wrong.
@SBK I don’t see anything wrong with a blanket statement. I’ve learned it’s not usually worth getting into a back and forth about any specific clue when I know it’s just a personal preference. But it’s still fair to weigh in on the overall enjoyment level. It’s not any less constructive than the dozens of people who feel the need to say how easy it was to solve 🙄
Um no thanks I don’t care about gold stars that much.
