This puzzle reminded me of one of my favorite web comics: https://www.buttersafe.com/2011/02/17/crosswords/
NO(ise) COMPLAINTS for me on this one. It wasn’t easy for me, but it felt very fair with few naticks and some nice long fill. More please :)
Sir, there’s a rebus in my Wednesday!
Wow, that was a beautifully constructed grid! Kudos on the great debut!
I kind of feel like NYT has taken the feedback that the puzzles are too easy and have ramped up the difficulty as of late. Cue the comments about the puzzles now being too hard.
A nice little boost of confidence since it was the first Saturday I have solved without any hints, auto check, or peeking in a very long time :)
I personally found this very satisfying! It was a nice steady fill in process for me, where I didn’t have much during the first pass but successively kept filling in more and more after each pass. The fact that this is rated as “Very Hard” on xwordstats also makes me feel like I have evolved so much as a crossword solver in the past year. Regarding the fill itself: I smiled at SHOWER BEER since I remember being introduced to this concept by my first post-college roommate :)
Cute puzzle! I wish my brain had enough lateral thinking ability to recognize when letters in words can be switched around to make new words. Alas, my brain doesn’t work in that way so I will just simply admire those that can think like this :)
Tough Sunday because it was themeless. Some incentive, incredible cluing. Thank you for the brain workout!
Really enjoyed this puzzle! Fantastic cluing! Thank you to the creator for putting this delight together.
I loved this puzzle! It was a fun brain tickler to start a leisurely Sunday morning. I was really impressed by the theme!
Not too difficult, but enjoyable. I thought the cluing was fresh - it had a style that felt a bit unique to me though I can’t put my finger on why. I laughed at XANADU crossing KAMA SUTRA because I remembered reading Coleridge’s poem back in high school English *cough*ahmenty*cough* years ago, and my teacher explaining to the class that it was about the journey into a woman’s vagina. Fun core memory to unlock!
One of those puzzles where I wasn’t sure about many of the answers when filling them in, but somehow I muddled my way through with a half decent time (under half an hour). Fun diversion while waiting for some banana bread to bake :)
It felt like Wednesday and Thursday were switched this week. Very enjoyable nonetheless!
Difficult but fun brain teaser. Felt extremely satisfying to get the gold star on this one. Thank you for the great puzzle.
@Alex the theme is dark energy. The letters in energy are hidden in black squares throughout the puzzle. One of the letters of energy is N and that N is in the black square above ascent.
I enjoyed this theme! Themes like this make me wish I had the ability of these creators to see this type of wordplay out in the wild :) Unfortunately, I have been noticing the app has been more buggy for me lately! Sometimes my answers don’t record and I have to open and close the app several times before they do. Not sure if it’s just me?
