Clever puzzle! But I had to double check the calendar, as it felt more like a crunchy Wednesday in several places…
@Bridget To each their own. I can imagine it was terribly difficult for someone who didn’t grow up in the US. But to quote my daughter, “Please don’t yuck my yum.” I enjoyed the puzzle, and the wordplay in the themes gave me a chuckle each time. Were there a few stinkers? PTUI, there are almost always a few in every puzzle in order to make great ideas work elsewhere in the grid. I accept those as the price for interesting and creative themes. Cheers.
Charming!! Well set… I mean, said. Well said!
Sparkling puzzle, clever laugh-out-loud cluing! Barbara, you made my day. And kudos to Sam, for your particularly punchy (punny?) column!
Brilliant!! Just brilliant! Immensely clever cluing. 66A made me burst out laughing—I almost had to 44A. I hope it makes it into Lewis’s top 5 list for the week! Kudos Mr Goldberg 👍👍
Enjoyed Mr. Chang’s puzzle, a quick breezy solve on a pleasant Sunday afternoon in the PNW. But today I want to give Joel Fagliano a quick shout-out, our unsung hero of the mini, for turning out little bursts of joy Every. Single. Day. Today’s clue [Someone walking in front of a train] made me laugh out loud when I figured out the answer from the crosses. At first I thought, brave, but no, walking in front of a train is actually just dumb (or stupid), but neither of those fit. BRIDE…so clever, Joel!
@Evan the key word in that clue is TWEENager… Between a child and a teen.
Well this was a delightfully tasty little morsel to start a Monday! Bravo, Jake, thank you for the chuckles and perfectly Monday-crunchy clues. Impressive construction! And kudos also to Caitlin for your laugh out loud commentary. Stay warm and safe, xword friends!
@David Connell Oh my, apple juice on cereal?? I’ve never heard of that, really can’t fathom how you would have come up with it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this puzzle. Thank you for making lemonade today, Danna! I look forward to your next one.
@Janis: thank you for the suggestions. Could you please clarify: In step 5, should we roll it with the towel BEFORE rolling it with the frosting? In other words, should it be rolled while still slightly warm to set the shape, then allowed to cool in the rolled shape, and finally unrolled and frosted once completely cool? Wouldn’t it be better if the frosting is somewhat chilled when piped so it doesn’t ooze when it’s sliced? Thanks in advance :-)
Adorable puzzle! Best Monday in ages. Oh, and missed you Sam! Lovely to have your eloquent enthusiasm back with us.
@Bill Thanks for the link! Love me some B52s serious camp…
@Lee Perhaps try changing the rebus squares to contain just the letter “R” rather than RAY. I’ve heard of solvers finding this works, depending upon their solving platform…
@Rob sounds like something Bjork or Gaga would wear… …better than an emu feather dress
