Absolutely delightful. While definitely a Monday puzzle, a nice challenge!
@Anita thanks for mentioning that puzzle. I just found it in the archives, and I'm quite proud that I did a Sunday puzzle (with a little help). Maybe now I'll go back do some more Sundays!
This was a quick and neat puzzle. Perfect for Monday. The only name I didn't know was Rian Johnson but I got it on the crossings. Took me a little over 5 minutes. And I too was excited that I remember the name of one of King Lear's daughters --college was over 40 years ago!!

Yes-just about 50 yrs since the cross at the green campaign. My birthday is tomorrow, 59! and I clearly remember my befuddlement with those ads. Why were the grownups telling us to cross when the light was green-THAT'S WHEN THE CARS GO! I thought we would get runover. Todays kids say cross when it is "man" and stop by the "hand". My 9 y old self was fine with walk/don't walk. A couple of years ago this came up, and my husband said "those ads made no sense, I thought we would get runover!"
All around great puzzle. But my favorite clue maybe my favorite clue ever-- Cover-up in an old detective film!!

I noticed a new feature in the puzzle. The next available box usual just turns yellow- now it has a black border. This border covers the bottom of the letter above, which messes me up when doing Down clues. For example the bottom of an L is covered and it looks like an I. Anyone else have this issue?
@Wingnut aaaand in checking to see if anybody was nice enough to try to help me I just saw at the top of this comment section that you can email <a href="mailto:NYTGames@nytimes.com">NYTGames@nytimes.com</a> for technical issues. I don't know how I missed that- but thanks to the person who politely suggested that I check my settings.
Cute idea, each individual clue wasn't Wednesday level difficult.
