@SP Agree with you, it’s a bit demeaning for either sex.
Lots of fun—enjoyed it very much. Some recent Sunday puzzles have seemed too satisfied with their own cleverness—this was not the case here. Once you realize the worm hole meanings, it’s an enjoyable romp.
Enjoyed this puzzle after having to wave the white flag last week. FTW was new to me, lol—I had entered ‘OMG’ at first. Boy, am I a dinosaur.
@The Whip I love doing Spelling Bee every day, especially those ‘Queen Bee’ days. However, I’m wondering if your reference to a given starter word every day refers to Wordle instead? I grapple with whether to change the starting word or not in Wordle, however the letters do change for Spelling Bee every day, so one can’t really use the same starting word every day.
Found this one to be a lot of fun. Love the process itself of completing a puzzle that, at first glance seems so hard, then as the light bulbs go on, is actually fun to finish. Enjoyed it very much this week.
Enjoyable puzzle. Found it easier than most Sunday puzzles, but still fun to complete. Once you realize how the theme of the puzzle translates to the answers, it’s pretty straightforward.
Great job on construction of this crossword!. Loved this one—had fun figuring it out. Always great to get my gold star for completion, after a couple weeks of not correctly completing the puzzle. I found it tricky in just the right way.
Possibly the easiest Sunday puzzle yet—way too easy, I feel. I just didn’t feel challenged. The movie titles were exactly as originally worded, no clever twist in amending the movie titles to fit the clues. I agree with the post that it felt like a Monday puzzle, which I don’t even bother with these days. Hoping for more of a challenge next week.
@Lpr I didn’t know this either—how do we access it? Thks, or I should say ‘thx’ to be ‘with it’.
@Chris Lang I don’t think anyone can truly say the Sunday crossword is ‘easy’.. it’s challenging and fun, rarely easy. After Sunday, the puzzle is easier—the easiest day of the week is Monday, then they get progressively harder until Saturday, the hardest day of the week. As a veteran puzzle solver, I really only do the Thur, Fri, Sat and Sunday puzzles, I rarely solve Saturday’s, and the other days just aren’t challenging. So—keep this in thought—completion of any day’s puzzle is to be commended.
Needed to put it aside and look at it with fresh eyes this morning ( I pretty much jump on it at 6:00 Saturday night loading time, lol). A new look at it made it easy today. Enjoyed the puzzle overall.
I am also one of those people who worked hours on this, and finally gave up and did ‘check puzzle’, only to find out it was not rebus in nature. Either including the color names as rebus, or excluding them altogether, should have been allowed as correct answers. Maybe include this fact in the notes we all usually read about the theme of the day’s puzzle, such as ‘non-rebus answers please’..?
@Kevin Just ‘O/I’ as a rebus worked for me.
@Nancy Sory: I meant ‘I/O’ worked for me.
@Horsefeathers This word was ‘sophist’, again using the ‘phi’ ploy of this puzzle. The down word counterpart was using ‘I/O’’, for sing-song voice.
@Becca It’s for ‘phi’ , resulting in ‘dolphin’.
@ardelion I was able to get completion with ‘I/O’ , not needing the ‘phi’ in my case. Apparently, as long as you have one or the other, it is accepted.
@LovePuzzles Just a thought: I also kept getting that message until I rethought my entry on 46 across—
Don’t get me wrong, I think there is too much PC thinking and verbiage these days, but I was shocked to see ‘SCALPED’ as the answer to seeking tickets before a show. Isn’t that a derogatory term in any age?
@Steve L My issue is that the movie titles fit too easily to the clues..
