Cache eviction and idempotency in the same puzzle? Nice. It almost makes up for "teraflop" (different constructor) from a while back. Remember: there are only two difficult problems in computer science: naming things, knowing when to clear the cache, and fencepost errors. As an avid thrower it's always nice to see yoyo in the grid too!
Baht yesterday and Siam today. Happy Songkran y'all!
@sotto voce Once upon a time I thought it was a fine song. Then I moved to a location where the closest bar is well known for karaoke.
@Charles Hartman If the OED is to be believed, it's also a verb. (I pay extra for more comprehensive dictionaries to make words mean what I want.)
@Pat Not only are the trees a sustainable crop but in some places (including my parish in LA) are put to other uses after the holiday. I would suggest that all the stuff under the tree constitutes a much bigger environmental issue. https://www.crcl.org/program/christmas-tree-recycling/
@SP Donny Darko is what I think of as a cult favorite. It fits your criteria well.
@Edward Rice Interesting. On a motorcycle I've always called that a bump start. To anyone who's done this (all too often myself, alas) jump start sure makes a lot of sense. Cool trick if you can pull it off on the first try; a reminder that I'm getting too old for this nonsense otherwise.
@Alpha Yes indeed. I've never encountered the dish in real life, FT is my only reference for it.
@Bill Saw the English Beat play a medium sized fundraiser for a wetlands project. They finished up and were starting to break down their kit when a guy in came running up to the stage and offered a donation if they'd play Tears of a Clown again. Cords were unrolled, amps powered up, and they rocked hard. Always thought highly of EB for that.
@Pani Korunova No. I'm against technology at the dinner table. Also though, I have a habit of reading the menu of the person sitting next to me. Food tastes better that way.
@Nancy J. I am fortunate to have learned the phrase "it's an invitation, not a summons" in early adulthood. With that in mind it's a simple matter of dispatching the customary fish slice and getting on with my day.
@SP If everything goes well, solo is okay. 2000 days and 112k miles though ... there must have been some rough spots. That she made it across all seven continents managing the riding, navigation, and human interactions alone is a pretty big deal.
A fun puzzle although I've enjoyed the noticeably more challenging past couple of weeks as well. All in all, I think JF is killing it with the editing. I hope the move is permanent. (And to be clear, hope Will has a long and healthy retirement!)
@Vaer Those of us of a certain ilk who were in Boston in the 80s would have heard KB in frequent rotation on WFNX. The clue was a gimme and rustled up some nostalgia.
@David R Also note Lake Street Dive's album (and single) Side Pony.
@Shane i (the square root of -1) raised to the fifth (also ninth, 13th, and so on) power is i. (I think the moderation system did not appreciate that being described as a formula; sorry if this ends up a repost.)
@Shane Noted. I got a little carried away there!
@Tyler S Me! (Mixed with cheap red jug wine on a really hot day.)
@Mean Old Lady This refreshment will always be "tonic" to me!
@Shane i * i * i * i * i = i !
@Steve L Green coffee is a common term.
@Jeb Jones LP record sounds wrong to my ears but "wax" was a gimmie. Wax Trax records cemented the association in my mind forever.
